KINGSTON, R.I. – The 2018 New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving (NEISDA) Championships, hosted at the University of Rhode Island, concluded on Sunday evening. The Saint Joseph's College men placed eighth with 177 points while the women posted a 17th-place finish with 157 points in the four-day event.
A pair of team records fell on Saturday, as sophomore Emily Roy (Sidney, Maine) topped her own SJC mark with a 1:06.56 time in the 100-Back prelims and freshman Joey Christian(Scarborough, Maine) shattered the 400-IM record with a 4:37.20 time and ninth-place finish in the finals.
Simmons College, the Monks' conference rival, claimed the women's championship for the first time in program history, edging 2017 champion Roger Williams College (by 39 points) with 1,504 total points. Roger Williams prevailed on the men's side - for the second-consecutive season - with 965.5 points, well ahead of runner-up UMass.-Dartmouth, which tallied 610 points.
Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) rival Norwich University posted a fourth-place finish on the men's side with 537.5 points.
DAY THREE RUNDOWN – MEN:
Joey Christian (Scarborough, Maine), Caleb Levine (Portland, Maine/Waynflete), Stephen Quinlan (Andover, Mass.), and Zack Gryskwicz (Standish, Maine) highlighted the weekend for the Monks with a sixth-place finish in the 400-Free Relay (3:33.41)
Levine finished 11th in the 200-Fly finals with a 2:10.15 performance
Quinlan was 11th in the 100-IM finals with a 1:00.12 time
Gryskwicz placed 14th in the 100-Free finals with a 51.69 effort
