STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly awards have been announced and Saint Joseph's College sophomore guard Jack Casale (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) has been named as the GNAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the third time this season. He has also been selected as the Maine Men's Basketball Coaches & Writers Association (MMBCWA) Player of the Week, his fourth such honor of the 2018-19 campaign.
Casale averaged 28.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in a 1-1 week, which included a key road win over GNAC preseason poll favorite Johnson & Wales, while registering 53/47/72% shooting clips. He posted a 20-point, 10-rebound double-double with seven assists against the NESCAC's Bowdoin (10-5 overall) before going off for 37 points (12-18 FG, 5-7 3PT, 8-11 FT) and nine boards in the 102-94 GNAC victory over the Wildcats on Saturday.
Through January 21st, Casale is averaging 24.2 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game while shooting 51.7% (140-271) from the field, 48.9% (68-139) from three-point distance, and 74.1% (63-85) from the free-throw line. He currently leads the conference in scoring average and three-pointers made (68), ranks second in points (411) and three-point percentage, fourth in rebounds (152) and minutes per game (34.5), and fifth in free throws made (63), rebounds per game, and assists (67).
Casale is currently ranked fifth in NCAA DIII Men's Basketball in three-pointers made, sixth in three-pointer field goals per game (4.00), 11th in points, and 12th in scoring average.
Casale previously earned GNAC weekly accolades on December 10th and January 2nd and MMBCWA honors on November 24th, December 3rd, and December 10th.
Saint Joseph's (13-4, 3-1 GNAC) will host Rivier University on Wednesday at 7:00 PM.
