LEWISTON, ME – Saint Joseph's College placed 7th with 212 team points in the 2011 Maine Women's College Cross Country Championship 5K at Pineland Farms on Saturday. Amber Dostie '15 (Standish, Maine) led the Monks with a 20:01 performance and placed 13th individually.

Dostie's impressive finish is the best for an SJC female runner in the Maine Championship meet in 20 years and her time is the lowest in the annual event since Kristin Lindholm posted a 19:35 effort in 1992.

Sarah Cadorette '13 (Lyman, Maine) was the second Monks runner to cross the finish line and placed 64th with a 22:06 time. Ashley Condon '13 (Sumner, Maine) finished 83rd (23:03), Melissa Deplanche '15 (Dover, N.H.) was 110th (25:42), and Audrey Curry '15 (Perry, Maine) was close behind with a 112th-place (25:45) effort.

Emily O'Connor '15 (Scarborough, Maine) (116th, 26:21), Lauren Tidd '13 (Walpole, N.H.) (118th, 26:34), Macy Pagurko '14 (Augusta, Maine) (123rd, 27:01) and Cally Hughes '13 (Johnson, Vt.) (29:41) also competed in the event for Saint Joseph's.

USM junior Molly Carl won the event with a 19:01 time, just two seconds ahead of runner-up Berol Dewdney of Colby College. Two Bowdoin College runners - Madelena Rizzo (19:06) and Olivia MacKenzie (19:12) – followed and Colby freshman Eva Lauer (19:16) rounded out the top

With 41 team points - thanks to four runners in the top 10, Colby captured team championship honors for the 12th time overall and the seventh time in the last eight years. Bowdoin was the runner-up with 44 points, Bates placed third with 58 and Southern Maine was a distant fourth with 120 points.

University of New England (136), Husson (204), Saint Joseph's (212), Maine-Farmington (219), Maine-Machias (263), Maine-Presque Isle (279), and Thomas College (307) also competed in the state championship meet.

Saint Joseph's will hit the trails again in two weeks when the Monks compete in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship at Franklin Park in Boston.
