Hawkes Named Third Team All-GNAC
STANDISH, ME – The 2010 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Volleyball All-Conference Teams have been announced and Saint Joseph's sophomore middle blocker Sarah Hawkes (Pownal, ME) has collected Third Team honors.
This fall, Hawkes paced the Monks in kills (209), total attacks (613), attack percentage (.202) and total blocks (63). She posted five double-doubles and is the only player in program history to record at least 60 total blocks in two different seasons.
Although only a sophomore, Hawkes already owns 13 program records – including the career marks for attack percentage (.245), kills per set (2.6) and block assists (45).
With the accolade, Hawkes becomes the first player in program history to earn All-GNAC honors. Saint Joseph's joined the conference in 2007.
She is also the first SJC Volleyball player to collect league postseason honors since the 2001 season, when Hillary Collyer, Helene Liaci and Lauren Merritt garnered Maine Athletic Conference accolades.
Sophomore left side hitter Alyssa Grigware (Biddeford, ME) is the Monks' 2010 GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team representative. Grigware was selected as the SJC team member who best exhibits the values of sportsmanship, which is one of the GNAC's three main tenets – along with community and integrity.
Under the watch of first-year Head Coach Yamile Nolan in 2010, Saint Joseph's posted a 17-14 record overall and went 5-7 against conference opponents en route to earning the team's first-ever GNAC Tournament berth.
