Monks Sink Husson, 137-97

BANGOR, ME - Hannah Gajewski '12 (Biddeford, ME/McAuley) collected three first place finishes, including SJC record times in the 50-breast and 100-free events and Lindsay D'Ascanio '11 (Kennebunk, ME) earned a pair of top finishes to help Saint Joseph's defeat Husson University, 137-97, on Saturday afternoon.

D'Ascanio led the Lady Monks with 29 points, Gajewski followed with 27 and Amanda Lanoix '12 (Lyman, ME) chipped in with 24 points.

Gajewski earned first-place finishes in the 50 breast, 100 free and 50 fly events. Her time of 36.23 in the 50 breast broke the previous mark of 36.27, which was set by Ashton Piers '09 (Falmouth, ME) at Wheelock College on January 26th, 2008. The freshman swam the 100 free in 59.19, which broke the record set just last weekend by teammate Jamie Wojtkiewicz '12 (Bedford, NH) at Colby-Sawyer (1:02.5). Gajewski now owns four SJC records in after having competed in only two events for Head Coach Rick Horr.

D'Ascanio placed first in the 500 free and 100 fly, with a record-breaking performance in the latter. The sophomore standout topped her own mark for the second consecutive meet with a 1:05.09, barely besting her former time of 1:05.10 set at Colby Sawyer last weekend, in the trials and went on to win the event with a 1:06.49 performance.

Lanoix broke the second record of her young career when she earned a 27.90 time in the 50 free competition to earn a top finish and topple the old mark of 28.47, set by teammate Danielle Harmon '10 (Poland, ME) at the GNAC Championships last December.

Katie Brooks '11 (Kingstown, RI), Piers and Wojtkiewicz pitched in with first-place finishes in the 50 back, 100 back and 50 breast events, respectively, and the 200 medley relay team of Anne Roberts '12 (Hopkinton, NH), D'Ascanio, Lanoix and Lindsay Bates '10 (Waterville, ME) kicked off the event with a win by posting a 2:13.03 time.

Also chipping in for the Lady Monks was Rose Marie Maccarrone '12 (Hingham, MA), who posted a pair of runner-up finishes in the 50 (39.39) and 100 breast (1:28.46) events.

Saint Joseph's will travel to Chicopee, MA on Sunday, November 16th to compete against Elms College in a meet that begins at 11:00 AM.
