Coach Michael Bolanz '00 returns for his seventh season as the
Head Coach of the Saint Joseph's Women's Soccer program.
Coach Bolanz enjoyed a pair of personal achievements in the fall of
2008. With a 4-2 victory over Maine-Maritime on October 5th, he
surpassed David Roussel as the winningest coach in SJC Women's
Soccer history. Coach Bolanz completed his fifth year as the Lady
Monks' leader with a 63-29-5 record and a program-best .685 winning
percentage.
On November 8th, 2008, Bolanz was inducted into the Saint
Joseph's College Athletics Hall of Fame. The first SJC Men's Soccer
player to receive such an honor, Bolanz, in his four years
playing goalkeeper for the Monks, was named to
three All-Conference first teams, two All-Region and
All-State Teams, and received an All-American nomination. He still
holds the program record for career saves (592) and shutouts
(13).
In 2008, the Women's Soccer team posted a 13-5-1 overall record and
went 9-2-1 in GNAC play to earn the #2 seed for the conference
tournament. The Lady Monks led the conference in goals per game
(2.58) and ranked second in the GNAC in shutouts (10).
The 2007 season was one for the record books as the women broke the single season record for wins (16) winning percentage (88.9%), consecutive wins (11), goals scored (74), and assists (57). The women capped their first year in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference with a 12-1-2 league record to earn a #2 seed in the playoffs and also hosted an ECAC Division III New England Championship contest for the first time in program history.
In 2004, Coach Bolanz took over the head coaching position of the Saint Joseph's College women's soccer program, after having served as an assistant for a year under former head coach Todd Sniper. Bolanz led his team to an impressive 11-7-1 record and a New England Cup Championship. The team's turnaround was ranked among the top 20 for NCAA Division III teams. For his efforts, and in only his first year as a head coach, Bolanz was named the Association of Division III Independents Coach of the Year.
Coach Bolanz is a nationally-licensed soccer coach. In
addition to coaching the Monks, Bolanz coaches a u-12
Odyssey Sport premier boys team in Portland, where he is also the
Director of Coaching on the boys side for the club. In addition,
Bolanz is the head coach of the 1990 Maine Girls' ODP team.
