Softball Trio Honored by GNAC

STANDISH, ME – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference has released its weekly honors for the first spring reporting period and three St. Joe’s Softball players have received honor roll mention.

Christy Wezowicz ’10 (Granville, MA), Liddy van der Linden ’10 (Worcester, MA) and Danyelle Shufelt ’13 (Sutton, VT) have been listed on the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll after helping the Monks post a 5-5 record in the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers last week.

Wezowicz pitched in four games for the Royal Blue with a 2-2 record and a 1.91 ERA in 22 innings in the circle. The senior hurler fanned 17 batters and allowed just one walk over four games.

van der Linden hit .290 (9-31) with nine RBI, two doubles and two home runs during the Monks’ southern swing. She also played well in the field, making just one error in 53 chances for a .981 fielding percentage.

Shufelt enjoyed a solid trip as well, as the rookie outfielder started all 10 games and posted a .286 (8-28) batting average with three stolen bases. She led the team with two sac bunts and also paced the Monks with a .571 (4-7) average with runners in scoring position.

The Monks will open the northern portion of their docket with a GNAC twinbill at Albertus Magnus College on Sunday, March 21st at 11:00 AM. The Royal Blue will host conference-foe Mount Ida College on March 26th at 3:00 PM.
