Rick Horr was named as Head Coach of the Men's and Women's
Swimming program prior to the 2008-09 season.
Horr, a native of Portland, Maine and a 1996 graduate of Deering
High School, most recently served as the assistant swimming coach
at University of New England. Prior to his stint with the
Nor'easters, Horr was the head coach of the Deering High boys swim
team for seven seasons. As the head coach of the Rams, his teams
posted a 44-8-1 record and won three Maine Class A State
Championships. In 2003 he earned both Maine Swim League Coach of
the Year and Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram Coach of
the Year honors.
Fiander, a native of the Washington DC area and a 2007 graduate
of Maine College of Art's Master of Fine Arts program, also works
in the field of photography and video. Prior to moving to Portland,
Fiander was the assistant swim coach of her former team at Bishop
O'Connell High School in Arlington, Virginia. She comes from a
strict swimming background and has also swam for the Lake Barcroft
Dolphins, Sleepy Hollow Recreation Association and U.S.S. team,
York Swim Club.
Overall, Fiander has a true passion for swimming, sportsmanship and
teamwork.
