Men's Swimmers Set Program Record for Points in Loss to Elms

STANDISH, ME - Although the SJC Men's Swim team fell to Elms College, 115-76, at the Harold Alfond Center pool on Saturday, there was plenty of positives to go around. The team points total is a new program event-high, and the Monks broke the 200-Free relay record and three individual records during the meet.

Andrew Marshall '13 (Kittery, ME/St. Thomas Aquinas) was directly involved in three of the record-breaking performances. The first-year swimmer swam a leg for the 200-Free relay team that beat the former mark by two seconds (1:45.24) and also set new individual marks in the 500-Free (5:38.32) and 200-Free (2:07.02) and placed first and second, respectively, in the events.

Marshall, Brian Grasser '12 (Groton, CT), Kieran O'Connell '12 (Gloucester, MA) and Kevin Towne '12 (Shrewsbury, MA) all swam legs for the record-setting 200-Free relay team.

Towne kicked off the 2009-10 season by winning all three of his events this afternoon. The sophomore earned top finishes in the 50-Back (28.54), 100-Back (1:03.03) and 100-IM (1:07.98) and amassed 27 individual points to lead all SJC swimmers. O'Connell won the 50-Fly with a 31.42 time, which breaks the record set by Pat DeCola '09 set on November 23rd, 2008.

St. Joe's will host Regis College at the Alfond Center on Saturday, November 21st at 1:00 PM.
