MADISON, NJ - The College at Florham Devils got two goals from six different players to beat St. Joseph's (ME), 14-4, in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon.
With the win, the Devils improved to 3-1. St. Joe's falls to 1-3 with the result.
The Monks got on the board first with when sophomore midi Andrew Hamill (Wolfeboro, N.H.) netted a man-up goal off a Jonathan Horgan (Hingham, Mass.) feed at the 9:24 mark of the first quarter. FDU tied it at 1-1 when junior midfielder Charlie Yotcoski converted a pass from senior midfielder Paul Colflesh just two minutes later. The Devils then exploded in the second quarter, scoring the next six goals to take a 7-1 lead at halftime. Senior attack Brian Goodwine scored two goals during the run.
Another SJC man-up goal, scored by Horgan off a Benson Pasquarello (Kennebunk, Maine) dish, cut it to 7-2 2:14 into the third quarter but the Devils then went on another run, this time scoring four straight, to grab an 11-2 lead with 3:56 remaining in the third.
After the Monks scored the final goal of the third quarter – a Pasquarello marker off a Max Meserve (Kennebunk, Maine) pass, FDU started the fourth with three consecutive tallies to take a 14-3 lead with 7:29 to play. Saint Joseph's made it 14-4 with 3:17 left when Meserve netted his fourth goal of the season, but the Devils ran out the clock to pick up the win.
Yotcoski, Goodwine, senior midfielder Adam Koontz, sophomore midfielder Jake Higgins, junior attack Cody McHugh, and freshman attack Frank Reda all had two goals in the win for the Devils. Senior midfielder Paul Colflesh added one goal and four assists. Freshman goalkeeper Gerry Yotcoski played the first three quarters and picked up the win, making one save.
Senior netminder Christopher Driscoll (Saco, Maine) made 14 stops and faced 28 shots in the losing effort.
Saint Joseph's will continue the New Jersey metro swing with a contest at Swarthmore on Tuesday at 4:00 PM. The Devils return to action on Saturday, March 17, 2012, at Cabrini.
