Rookie O'Brien Honored by Conference & MMBCWA

STANDISH, ME - Saint Joseph's freshman guard Zach O'Brien (Schenectady, NY/Bishop Gibbons) has received Great Northeast Athletic Conference Men's Basketball as well as Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association Rookie of the Week honors.

For the reporting week ending November 30th in which the Monks posted a 1-1 record, O'Brien averaged 11.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per contest. The freshman showed great poise in a 72-55 victory over the University of Southern Maine on November 30TH. O'Brien shot 75% (8-12) from the floor, 2-3 from three-point range, and tallied 18 points and eight rebounds - both game and season highs - in the triumph.

Through four games this season, O'Brien ranks as the Monks' fourth-leading scorer (8.5 PPG) and rebounder (3.5 RPG).

Saint Joseph's, 3-1 thus far under sixth-year Head Coach Robert Sanicola ‘99, will host GNAC foe Norwich University on Wednesday, December 3rd at 6:00PM in the team's conference opener.
