2011 Golf Team Awards

STANDISH, ME – The 2011 Saint Joseph's golf team awards have been released. Head Coach Jamie Smyth '92 handed out a pair of honors last fall: Most Valuable and Most Improved.

It should come as no surprise that sophomore Kevin Richardson (Coventry, Conn.) was selected as the Monks' MVP last fall. Richardson competed in all eight of the team's events and tallied four top-10 performances with six top-20 efforts in his second collegiate season. He recorded a 77.5 stroke average in 18-hole events in 2011 - the lowest figure posted by an SJC golfer in six years.

Freshman Steve Simonds (Steep Falls, Maine) collected Most Improved honors for the Royal Blue after competing in four tournaments with three top-20 efforts last fall. Simonds opened his college career with an 82 card in the UMF Invitational on September 15th and shot a career-best 79 in both days of competition at the GNAC Championship at Gorham Country Club on October 8th and 9th.
