Four to Serve as Captains for 2011 SJC Baseball Team

STANDISH, ME – Seniors Chris Campbell (Rochester, NH), Kevin Chamberlain (Scarborough, ME), Ian Lee (Hampden, ME) and Todd Keneborus (Hollis Center, ME/Cheverus) will serve as team captains for the 2011 Baseball team.

The Monks' quartet of captains has combined to earn seven All Conference accolades, three GNAC All-Academic awards, three All America honors and a pair of All Region mentions.

Campbell hit .405 (64-158) with a team-high 54 runs scored, nine doubles and 19 RBI in 2010 as the Monks' primary shortstop. He is a two-time All-GNAC selection and earned Third Team All-NEIBA honors as a sophomore and was named on the "2011 Players to Watch" list by Collegiate Baseball Magazine earlier this month.

Also an excellent student, Campbell has been named to the GNAC All-Academic Team following each of the past two seasons.

Chamberlain, an All-Academic choice last season and a GNAC All-Tournament honoree in 2009, went 2-1 with a 3.68 ERA and 27 strikeouts – against just four walks – in 29.1 innings as a junior. The imposing right-hander pitched particularly well in the NCAA DIII New England Regional Tournament last spring and is expected to be a key cog in the Monks' rotation this season.

Lee, a three-time All-GNAC selection and 2008 GNAC Rookie of the Year, batted .333 (37-111) with 20 runs, six doubles, two home runs and 29 RBI in 2010. One of the Monks' most feared hitters, Lee hit .475 (75-158) with 53 RBI as a sophomore and earned D3baseball.com All America Honorable Mention honors that season.

Lee, a catcher, suffered several injuries and was unable to play behind the plate for the latter half of his junior season, but was hitting .431 through 38 games. Lee's ability to remain healthy will be a major factor in the Monks' success this spring.

Keneborus, the Monks' right fielder, earned a plethora of honors after hitting .464 (77-166) with 52 runs, 15 doubles, 13 triples, four home runs and 65 RBI during his junior campaign. He collected ABCA/Rawlings All America Third Team, D3baseball.com All America Third Team, NEIBA First Team, GNAC Player of the Year and First Team All-GNAC honors in 2010 and was listed on the 2011 D3baseball.com Preseason All America Team and 2011 Collegiate Baseball "Players to Watch" list earlier this month.

Keneborus was on fire in the NCAA Tournament, as the junior outfielder hit .526 (10-19) in the Monks' five games in the New England Regional and was placed on the All-Tournament Team for his efforts.

The 2010 St. Joe's team posted a 35-13 record, captured a conference title for the fifth time in the past six seasons and advanced to the NCAA DIII New England Regional for the fourth time in the last five years. The Monks won three games at the regional and advanced to the final day of the tourney last spring.

The 2011 campaign will be Coach Sanborn's 19th as the Monks' leader. He is the most successful coach in SJC Baseball history with a 471-273-6 career record and corresponding .633 winning percentage.

Saint Joseph's will kick off the 2011 season with  a nine-game set in Winter Haven, Florida during the week of spring break (3/13 – 3/18).
