STANDISH, ME – Head Coach Will Sanborn '86 has announced the 2011 Saint Joseph's College Baseball season schedule.
The Monks' 2011 docket includes a nine-game schedule in Winter Haven, Florida (opponents, dates and times TBA) and a three-game set at New Jersey City University. St. Joe's is slated to play 15 games in March, 24 in April and one game in May.
Saint Joseph's will play 2010 New England Champion UMass.-Boston in the Monks' 2011 home-opener on March 30th. The 2011 GNAC slate begins with a twinbill at Albertus Magnus College on April 2nd, while conference-counterpart Lasell College comes to Standish for a two-game set the following day.
Aside from 14 conference contests, the regular season schedule includes nine-inning games against Roger Williams, Husson, Bowdoin, Colby, Anna Maria, Daniel Webster and Bates. St. Joe's and in-state rival Southern Maine will play home-and-home nine-inning tilts in mid-April.
The GNAC Tournament begins with a preliminary round on April 26th and the six-team tourney concludes with the championship game on May 1st. The tournament site has not yet been announced.
The NCAA DIII Regional Tournament (site TBD) starts on May 18th and concludes four days later.
The 2010 St. Joe's team posted a 35-13 record, captured a conference title for the fifth time in the past six seasons and advanced to the NCAA DIII New England Regional for the fourth time in the last five years. The Monks won three games at the regional and advanced to the final day of the tourney last spring.
Since 2005, only two New England programs have posted more wins (190) and just three have notched a better winning percentage (.714). St. Joe's is one of three region teams to have made four New England Regional appearances in the last five seasons and one of four to notch five 30-win seasons over the last six years.
The 2011 campaign will be Coach Sanborn's 19th as the Monks' leader. He is the most successful coach in SJC Baseball history with a 471-273-6 career record and corresponding .633 winning percentage.
