Intramurals at Saint Joseph's College

The Department of Intramurals and Recreation provides a variety of programs and employment opportunities that contribute to the overall health of the SJC community. We strive to create an atmosphere that fosters the development of lifelong patterns of healthy habits and dedication to the development of the spirit, mind and body. Providing an ever-evolving array of group competitions and individual and group exercise opportunities is our goal. The Department enhances individual and community growth, peer leadership and moral development through participation in our programs.

Why Intramurals?

Intramural activities provide a less competitive and informal environment where persons of all ability levels can compete together. Intramurals help transform spectators into active participants, and with 10 different sport activities, everyone has an opportunity to participate.

Along with the fitness and social benefits, intramurals at St. Joe’s provides students with an arena for healthy competition in which leaderships skills can be developed and sportsmanship is stressed. Also, Champions in each league will receive t-shirts to help boast their title!

Who can participate?

All current Saint Joseph’s College students, faculty and staff are encouraged to participate. Varsity athletes may participate in activities outside of their particular sport, as long as their head coach approves of the activity.

How do I get involved?

Rupert Lewis is the Director of Intramurals at St. Joe’s. Rosters for team sports are available at his office in the Alfond Center. Also, roster forms for all offered activities can be found here: You can also contact Coach Lewis by email at for more information about activities.

What activities are offered?

Below is a list of offerings for intramural activities. Successes of the leagues are essentially based on student body participation. Activities or leagues will only be offered if there is enough student participation and interest.

Softball   Men’s Basketball
Volleyball   Co-Ed Basketball
Dodgeball   Ping Pong
Flag Football   Indoor Soccer
    Floor Hockey

I want in! Where do I start?

Can rosters be changed?

Yes, but only before the team has played it's first league game. If a submitted roster is to be changed before the first game, please print a ROSTER EDIT FORM and hand it in to Intramurals Director Rupert Lewis.
