Monks by the Numbers

STANDISH, ME – Jersey numbers – some are requested, others assigned by coaches. Some players are quite attached to their number, others couldn’t care less.

By our calculations, sixty different jersey numbers have been worn a total of 2,087 times by St. Joe’s athletes over 203 seasons in the SJC Sports Information database. The lists linked below are as complete as possible at this point, but approximately 40 seasons are missing (see the “Missing Seasons” table below). If anyone can help “fill the gaps,” please feel free to contact us using the “Feedback” link on the bottom of the page.

The most common number, #10, has been worn by SJC athletes 92 times and is also the most popular number for male participants (47). The favorite number among female athletes at St. Joe’s? #12.

See the table on right for a list of jersey numbers and a tally of players to have worn each number.

The highest number adorned by an SJC player? #99 by Field Hockey keeper Alisha Langway in 2000. The largest digits worn by a male athlete is 55 and was last assigned to baseball player Kevin Chamberlain ’11 (Scarborough, ME) in 2008.

Eight different SJC athletes have worn zero or double-zero – all were soccer or field hockey keepers except Kathleen Lemon, who was assigned #0 as a libero for the women’s volleyball team in 2006.

Special thanks to Brian DeCandia ’10, Danielle Johnson ’10, Andy Kaherl '11, Bill McCabe ’09, Andy Pooler ’09, and John Swasey ’11 for their efforts in completing this project.
